CAST CALL
It Always Ends With a Bench
Production Dates: 2-3 days between mid December and mid January
Submission deadline: 12/1/25
Roles available:
- Young Hannah: Freshly 20, anxious and eager for the world ahead. Clearly a girl respected by teachers, parents, and people of power, yet ostracized by her peers. As somewhat of a hopeless romantic, the idea of true love has been a driving factor in her persistent nature. For Hannah, love seems like an end-all solution to her problems. However, this passionate, once loudly spoken young adult, has found herself all the more hopeless by the end of her first real romantic endeavor. She has taken the immaturity of her now ex-partner personally and has become unable to separate her flaws from his.
- Seth: Freshly 20, but you would guess he’s younger based on maturity level—Seth has a careless personality that harms those around him. The inability to recognize his influence on others leads him to live confidently while others take on the consequences of his careless nature. Relationships for Seth are just something to do. Very little thought is put into his romantic actions, which manifests as committing to long-term plans he doesn’t care about or intend to get to. Seth cannot think that long-term. He is eager to finish college and live a “real” life, but has no clear goals or motivations to get him there. He is confident his “it’ll all work out” attitude will get him where he needs to go without any real work on his end.
- Older Hannah: Hannah is not so naive anymore, now closer to 30 than 20, Hannah has had another decade to grow. A series of failed relationships in her early 20s left her needing self-reflection. In the following years, as she learned lessons from her failures, she has become more confident, but also more hopeless; always finding herself with some guy who doesn’t seem to give a shit about her. The young, loudly spoken girl she was before her first heartbreak feels more like a distant memory than the embodiment of who she once was. Now, as Hannah finds herself in the same situation she experienced in her early 20s, and countless times since then, she feels more defeated than ever. She is once again unable to separate herself from the poor decisions of others.
- Chris: Chris has his life more put together than most men his age. With a stable job and an apartment outside of his mom's basement, he's become a very attractive man. However, years of being praised for being better than most men has given him somewhat of an ego. Though subtle at first, Chris makes more comments than he should about “how good a guy” he is. Chris lacks the self-reflection needed to continue to make personal growth. Instead, he feels as though reading feminist literature and reading the news absolves him from any form of misogyny or mistreatment towards others. Despite being “well read” and priding himself on his emotional availability, what Chris is really looking for in a woman is a caretaker, not a partner.
