Alumni Jacalyn Colt, Dave Aragon honored with 2019 alumni awards
In one of ̽»¨ÊÓÆµ'sÌýlongest-standing traditions, the 90th annual alumni awards ceremony honored extraordinary alumni, including two of theÌýSchool of Education’s outstanding alumni.
Dave Aragon is a 2019 recipient of the Robert Stearns Award, honoring faculty and staff for extraordinary achievement, and Jacalyn Colt received the George Norlin Award, one of the university's highest honors acknowledging the devotion to the betterment of society.
The Homecoming event was held in a packed Glenn Miller Ballroom with a welcome from Ryan Chreist, assistant vice chancellor and executive director of the Alumni Association; remarks and presentation of the awards by Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano; and emceeing by Kim Christiansen, 9News anchor and ̽»¨ÊÓÆµ alumna, who narrates the awardees’ feature videos.Ìý
Colt has dedicated her 40-year career in public education to improving literacy and the student experience, as a district literacy coordinator, CU instructor and chair of ̽»¨ÊÓÆµâ€™s School of Education Development Advisory Board. She is a three-time School of Education alumna earning a master’s and doctorate in education and education specialist.Ìý
Aragon received his Master’s in Educational Foundations, Policy and Practice in 2011, and he is ̽»¨ÊÓÆµâ€™s assistant vice chancellor for diversity, learning and student success for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement.ÌýAragonÌýhelps students achieve their goal of obtaining a universityÌýeducation successfully through his work focusedÌýon supporting studentsÌýfrom historically underrepresented backgrounds.Ìý
