Architectural Engineering
Four ̽»¨ÊÓƵ architectural engineering students participated in a national healthcare design competition typically geared toward graduate students, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design a cancer center for Houston’s underserved Third Ward community. The experience challenged students to think beyond technical engineering and consider patient comfort, community needs and healthcare access in the design process.
Susie See is President and Electrical Engineering Lead at MEYERS + ENGINEERS, bringing 30+ years of experience in high‑performance, sustainable design. A ̽»¨ÊÓƵ alum, she is a recognized industry leader, mentor, and advocate for inclusion, serving on CU’s Engineering Advisory Council and earning recognition as a San Francisco Business Times Woman of Influence.- Don Kinderdick (ArchEngr'87) is president, CEO, and board chairman of BEGA North America, where he has led operations since joining in 2000. With prior roles at Zumtobel Staff Lighting and Sterner Lighting, he has built a career focused on high‑quality lighting design, manufacturing, and sustainability. A longtime supporter of lighting education, he chairs the Rocky Mountain Lighting Academy advisory board at ̽»¨ÊÓƵ.
Caroline Mumm, an architectural engineering major, represented ̽»¨ÊÓƵ during a summer abroad program at Freie Universität Berlin International Summer University (FUBis). Mumm returned with a deeper understanding of the diverse challenges and innovations in sustainable building worldwide.
The event, which drew 166 participants to ̽»¨ÊÓƵ’s campus, marked an industry-wide step toward cutting emissions tied to building materials like steel and concrete.
̽»¨ÊÓƵ’s Concrete Canoe team earned third place overall at the regional ASCE Rocky Mountain Student Symposium. The popular student group—known for designing and racing a concrete canoe each year—continues to grow, with 28 ̽»¨ÊÓƵ students participating in this year’s event.
On Friday, April 25 at the University of Colorado Boulder, engineering students will present their capstone design projects at the annual Engineering Projects Expo. This year's event will feature projects from mechanical engineering; computer science; electrical, computer and energy engineering; biomedical engineering; and civil, environmental and architectural engineering.
