5 tips for Fourth of July weekend

As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, here are some tips and things to keep in mind to enjoy the holiday.ÌýÌýÌý

ÌýÌýPlan ahead for campus closuresÌýÌý

Independence Day is observed on Friday, July 3 this year and is a university holiday, so many campus spaces and services will be closed or have limited hours that day—including Campus Dining & Hospitality, the Rec Center, the UMC, Counseling & Psychiatric Services and Medical Services. If you need something, check office hours in advance or plan ahead for meals and workouts.ÌýÌý

Medical Services offers free after-hours telehealth through TimelyCare (available evenings, weekends and closures), and Counseling & Psychiatric Services offers free, flexible and confidential online counseling through BetterMynd, as well as 24/7 crisis services by calling 303-492-2277.Ìý


ÌýÌýAttend community fireworks showsÌý

Fireworks are illegal in Boulder, and there are no plans for a fireworks or drone show in Boulder in 2026.ÌýÌýÌý

If you want to celebrate July 4th with a traditional fireworks show, you can attend an event in surrounding communities. Check out the on July 4 at the Coal Creek Golf Course. Or celebrate a day early on July 3 in Erie with a .ÌýÌý

Reminder: Fireworks can spark fires and create major noise issues for neighbors and the community.Ìý

In Boulder, all fireworks are illegal. That includes sparklers, snaps, snakes, bottle rockets, Roman candles, smoke bombs and any fireworks that explode or leave the ground. If you use fireworks, you could face:Ìý

  • Fines up to $2,650ÌýÌý
  • Court feesÌýÌý
  • Possible arson chargesÌýÌý
  • Possible jail timeÌýÌý
  • Liability for property or personal injury damagesÌýÌý

Students may also be referred to Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution.Ìý

You can still be held responsible if your roommates or guests use fireworks at your place, even if the fireworks aren’t yours. If you have unused fireworks, you can turn them in without penalty at the City of Boulder Public Safety Building, 1805 33rd St.Ìý


ÌýÌýBe a good neighborÌýÌý

If you’re living off campus, help keep things low-stress by keeping noise down and cleaning up trash—these are two of the most common reasons students get tickets. You can receive a citation at any time for excessive noise or having trash on your property.ÌýÌý

If you’re hosting a gathering, plan ahead with your roommates: decide who’s invited, how you’ll manage noise and when things will wrap up. You’re responsible for what happens at your place, even if guests are the ones causing issues.ÌýÌý

Want an extra layer of protection? You can register your party with Off-Campus Life to receive a 20-minute warning if a complaint is made before police are dispatched.ÌýÌý

ÌýÌýEnjoy outdoor recreationÌýÌý

Boulder is wonderful for exploring the outdoors during the summer. Prepare for the Colorado sun and high altitude to avoid dehydration and sunburn. The Apothecary at Wardenburg Health Center carries many over-the-counter products, like insect repellent and sunscreen.ÌýÌý
